New York

We had a wonderful first class flight to La Guardia on Saturday.  Sunday and Monday we had a rent car and drove along the Hudson River to look for Fall colors.  Enjoyed the small towns (Sleepy Hollow was one) and old stone buildings and churches.  We found the best foliage colors west of West Point Military Academy in Sterling Forest State Park.

Today, we returned the rental car and changed hotels to the Sleep Inn at 40th Ave. and 13th St., Long Island City, Queens.  We were able to check in at 9:30 a.m. and were given a 10th floor room with view of Manhattan.  Really fantastic.  We conquered the subway/metro system, at least to get to Times Square, Staten Island Ferry station (will do another day) and back to hotel.  Quite an adventure.  For the next 2 days, we are riding one of the many HOHO (Hop on Hop Off) buses around Manhattan.  If it’s not raining too badly and Jim’s ankle is ok, we’ll do some stops.  Friday, is the beginning of the cruise!!

  1. If you have a chance and are into this sort of thing try to get a matinee in tomorrow. Wednesday is the only day they have these. You can get discounted tickets at the TKTS office on 42nd I think I highly recommend Jersey Boys.
Have a great time in New York and a wonderful cruise.
